Portrait FAQ’s
Here are some common questions from Portrait clients
Do you have suggestions for clothing and outfits?
Unless your photographs are meant for a specific theme, event or holiday, then I simply suggest you wear clothing that you feel comfortable in. You do not have to all be matching but the clothing should compliment each others outfits. I recommend you do not wear bold colours and patterns and that you do not have slogans or branded clothing.
At what stage of my pregnancy should I schedule my maternity shoot?
I generally recommend you schedule your maternity session between 30 and 35 weeks of your pregnancy although every pregnancy is different so we can discuss what timing is best for you. My experience is that between 30 and 35 weeks your belly is full and beautiful for the images but you will still feel comfortable enough to stand and pose.
Can family members be part of the baby photoshoot?
Of course! The lifestyle baby session can be flexible depending on the age of the baby and also what the baby’s needs are.
We don’t like really posed images, is that okay?
Absolutely! I photograph with the intention of telling the essence of your personal story which means that I like to capture your relationships, personalities, private interactions and the real you. I will guide you so that you have direction and are comfortable being photographed. By the end of the session you’ll be a pro!
Can I have a change of outfits for my maternity shoot?
Yes, please feel free to get creative and prepare outfit changes. I would love to hear about them before the shoot if you want to discuss style ideas.
Can I bring props for the baby photos or outfit changes?
Yes, please feel free to get creative and prepare outfit changes. Props can be great too but with older babies we won’t give them props, toys or snacks at the beginning of the session in order to hold the baby’s engagement with myself and the camera for as long as possible.
What if the weather isn’t good for our outdoor shoot?
The weather can be unpredictable but there’s always a way! We can either reschedule if we know the bad weather is passing quickly or we will have an alternate location already determined.
Can I bring props for my maternity photos?
Yes, please bring any relevant props that you want. Props are fun and help to make posing comfortable and easy. Some props I can suggest would be: an ultrasound photo (preferably framed); baby shoes or keepsakes; any items or colours themed around your baby’s nursery or baby shower.
When is it best to schedule the baby session?
All ages for the baby session are good, up to and including their 12th month. The photoshoot will change as the baby gets older and interacts differently but it’s all just a different level of cuteness!
